According to ArbSchG §10 - first aid and other emergency measures

(1) Depending on the type of workplace and the activities as well as the number of employees, the employer must take the measures required for first aid, firefighting and evacuation of the employees. In doing so, he must take into account the presence of other people. He must also ensure that, in an emergency, the necessary connections to external bodies are set up, particularly in the areas of first aid, emergency medical care, rescue and firefighting.


(2) The employer must name those employees who will take on the tasks of first aid, firefighting and evacuation of the employees. The number, training and equipment of the employees named in accordance with sentence 1 must be proportionate to the number of employees and the particular dangers that exist. Before the appointment, the employer must hear the works or staff council. Further participation rights remain unaffected. The employer can also perform the tasks specified in sentence 1 himself if he has the training and equipment required under sentence 2."

The entrepreneur is obliged to provide or train sufficient fire protection and first aiders*.
The standard rate specifies 5% fire protection assistants present - this percentage can vary depending on the company, fire load, risk assessment and number of employees.





Position of a fire protection officer

  • Appointment of fire protection officers according to industrial building guidelines, special building guidelines, specifications in the fire protection concept or the fire protection statement
    Inspections at regular intervals!
  • Written summary including picture documentation.
  • Development of measures according to operational conditions.
  • Follow-up discussions of the developed measures with the employees, supervisors.
  • Written summary as documentation for the management.
    Participation in the work safety committee meetings.
  • Annual report.
    Preparation of fire protection regulations according to DIN 14096.
  • Creation of escape and rescue route plans according to DIN ISO 23601.
  • Conduct evacuation drills.
  • Carrying out extinguishing exercises on the device according to ArbSchG and DGUV regulation 1.
  • On-site training opportunities.
  • Fire protection training, e.g. for fire protection assistants/evacuation assistants.
